CitationJAPAN'S battling tourism industry is about to receive a major boost, with plans to reopen Tokyo Disneyland.

The Nikkei business daily has reported Tokyo Disneyland will reopen April 15, more than a month after a massive disaster hit Japan, badly affecting power supplies around the capital.

The amusement park closed March 12, a day after the 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan, generating a tsunami that crippled the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Although the park was not badly damaged, its operator the Oriental Land Co had to close it due a power shortage caused by multiple power plant shutdowns.

Oriental Land decided to reopen the park after the government announced an end to planned blackouts "in principle", the business daily reported.

The decision is expected to be officially announced on Tuesday.

The Tokyo Disney Resort, a vast complex including Disneyland, is a key attraction for visitors to Tokyo, with up to 50 percent of package tours to the region reportedly stopping at the park.

CitationTokyo Disney Resort extends its most heartfelt condolences at this time to the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in northeast Japan, their families and all those close to them. We pray for the earliest possible return to normalcy.

We hereby announce that Tokyo Disneyland, which has suspended operations since March 12, will reopen on April 15, 2011.

The reopened Tokyo Disneyland will work to reduce power consumption. In addition, Tokyo Disney Resort will donate as relief money to the Japanese Red Cross ¥300 per Guest entering the Park and the proceeds from the sale of charity wrist bands available in the Park from April 22.

Resumption of operations at Tokyo DisneySea will be announced at least three days beforehand by 8pm on the day of the announcement.

We apologize once again to all our Guests and others for the considerable inconvenience and concern caused by the Parks' recent closure, and thank you for your patience and continued support.
